3 Misconceptions and 3 Benefits of Dog Boarding and Training Programs

We all love our dogs and consider them to be family. However, sometimes we need a helping hand when life gets busy. We know it’s only fair to our pup that they have clear expectations, consistent training, and sufficient attention.

You wonder how to make this all happen in the most effective, safest, and loving way for our dog. Maybe you start to think about how you can carve that extra hour in after work. Or maybe you think you can devote your weekends to training and structure. But deep down you know your pup will need more consistency. You hear about dog boarding, but you aren’t quite sure about it.

Then you come across this blog.

There are several misconceptions about dog boarding and training that we’re going to resolve today and many benefits we’re going to cover. Beyond traditional dog boarding, board and train programs are great for providing your pup structure, training, and expectations even though life is busy. Quality programs can really work wonders, so at the end, I’ll talk about some of the programs I offer.

Misconceptions about dog boarding and training

There are several misconceptions about boarding and training that would make any dog owner cringe at least a bit at the thought of their dog being boarded. But the thing is, they are in most cases just misconceptions or stereotypes. That being said, it is always important to do your research about dog boarding facilities before boarding your dog because it is the quality facilities that will ensure these are only misconceptions.

The first major misconception is that your dog has a high chance of getting sick while at the boarding facility. While there are many dogs at the facility, quality boarding facilities will require certain vaccinations and health checks before pups stay with them. Furthermore, these boarding facilities will also clean regularly to decrease the chances of illness and will monitor the dogs’ health. That being said, no boarding facility can guarantee complete health of the dogs staying there. Check with your veterinarian about actions you should take before boarding your dog for their health.

Another major misconception is that your dog won’t leave their crate or kennel while at the boarding facility. However, at many boarding facilities, your dog will get a lot of exercise and socialization throughout the day. Quality boarding facilities will have trained staff to give your dog plenty of attention and care.

Which leads to another common misconception that your dog will develop bad habits. When you send your dog with a trained professional at a board and train program, you actually give your pup the opportunity to develop new positive habits and structure over a consistent period of time.

Benefits of dog boarding and training

Life gets busy for everyone. It gets even busier when you have a dog and need to devote the time to train, exercise, and socialize them. Board and train programs give your dog the opportunity to get adequate training and understand expectations even when life gets busy. Boarding and training programs can be during the workday or can be for extended periods of time with overnight boarding programs.

Board and train programs can also help to prevent separation anxiety by giving your pet socialization and distraction while you are gone. When you pick a quality board and train program, chances are that your pet will actually begin to feel an attachment to the trainer as well so it’s a great alternative to the potential separation anxiety.

Furthermore, life happens and emergency situations or travel come up. When your dog is accustomed to the board and train program, leaving your pet in the hands of these quality facilities is a great way to ensure that your pup is in good hands when travel, events, and unforeseen circumstances pop up.

My board and train programs

You get the greatest benefit from boarding your dog when your dog is enrolled in a board and train program. I offer a variety of board and train programs because I feel that they are an incredibly effective way to establish new habits and structure as well as ensure your dog has clear expectations and continued training when life gets busy.

Day Training: One program that I offer is a day training program. In this program, you get to leave your pup with me while you go about your workday and extracurricular activities so your pup doesn’t have to sit at home alone all day. With this option, I work your dog through a training program specific to their needs throughout the days that they are with me.

Short-Term Overnight Dog Boarding and Training: Another program that I offer is shorter-term overnight boarding and training. This is a great option if you are headed out on vacation, have a really busy week, or life just happened. Because this is only a few days, I focus the training on specific areas of need for your dog. Your dog stays at my house with my family, my dogs, and myself, so you know they are getting plenty of care and attention in a clean and safe environment. This program is best for refresher training and just training the basics.

Long-Term Overnight Dog Boarding and Training: My most extensive board and train program is where you leave your pup with me for a few weeks for an intensive training program where your dog comes back with clear expectations, new skills, and improved manners and respect. This program is great for helping your dog efficiently and effectively develop new habits and structure rather than squeezing it in with your already busy life. My goal is to send you back with a “push button” dog where obedience is second nature for your dog. Once again, your dog stays at my house with my family, my dogs, and myself to guarantee lots of love and safety.
